Technology Toolbox
The technology toolbox is a collection of software products provided to faculty for use in the curriculum. The software and getting-started assistance are provided. Submit an online request os send an e-mail message to Support Desk to request software or assistance. Paula Henderson is your primary Information Services contact.
What are the guidelines for a product to be a part of the technology toolbox?
Recommendations come from faculty and IS staff, as well as students. Criteria for including software are:
- Enhance the classroom experience
- Effective and easy to use
- Limited to one tool per application category - within reason
- Affordable
- Beneficial to all teaching faculty
What products are currently a part of the technology toolbox and where can I get them?
The current suite of products in the toolbox are listed below. If software must be installed, a direct contact or location is included.
You may also use the buttons on the left-hand toolbar to navigate to a more in-depth overview of each product.
- Adobe Acrobat - Pdf document creation. Available through Information Services to faculty currently teaching classes. (CD based).
- BlackBoard - http://classes.emory.edu/ - Easy on ramp for web delivery of course materials, test creation and scoring, administrative tools, communication tools and other features.
To request a course site for Blackboard , send an e-mail to classes@emory.edu. Include contact information (incl. phone number), Course Number, Course Name and Section Number. If you would like Online Learning Systems to enroll your students, please include this request in your e-mail.

Camtasia - Capture an entire course for online and CD delivery, or embed a screen video into a PowerPoint presentation. Camtasia incudes post production editing tools so that you can correct mistakes, or polish a presentation. Contact Information Services to learn more about Camtasia.
- Dreamweaver - The industry standard in fast and powerful web development. With a minimal amount of guidance, faculty can expect to deliver high impact web sites with a minimum amount of time. Dreamweaver is available through Information Services to faculty currently teaching classes. (CD based).
- FirstClass - The enterprise E-mail system for the Goizueta community. Course conferences, which can be "web activated," provide an instant Internet presence for instructional or collaborative needs. Internet-based account access, and the software for the desktop client are available at http://www.fc.bus.emory.edu.
- Lecture 123 - Emory and the Business School are evaluating Lecture123 as an easy-to-use tool to record, publish and playback rich, collaborative, searchable content over the Internet. You need only a computer and a microphone to get started. For more information about Lecture123 go to http://www.lecture123.com . If you are interested in trying Lecture123 please contac the Support Desk. You may also need space on the Real Server to publish your content. You can request this via email to Support Desk. (8/2007)
- Microsoft Office - The Goizueta Business School currently supports Office 2003 and Office XP. Currently supported software is located on the T: drive. From your desctop open My computer >> licensw on 'GBSFILE' (T:) >> windows. Open the Office2003 folder or OfficeXP folder. Run Setup.exe NOTE: Migration to VISTA and Office 2007 is not planned until late FY 2008.
- Qualtrics - An easy-to-use sophisticated software development tool. All faculty, staff and students have a fully functional individual survey account. Student acounts must be renewed annually. Faculty accounts are permanent. There is no fee assessment for surveys based on the number of responses received. To activate your personal survey account go to https://emory.qualtrics.com. You will need a coupon code and you must use your Goizueta e-mail address. Accounts created without coupon codes default to student accounts. You can request a coupon code from Information Services.
- SurveyMonkey - A rapid development, web-based survey tool. Faculty and sponsored student groups can use SurveyMonkey to develop, deploy, and collect surveys over the internet, anywhere in the world, and in record time, thanks to the highly user friendly development interface. We do not have a site license for this product. However, Survey Monkey offers a free account for up to 100 responses and 10 questions per survey which is sometimes all that is required. - VYEW - Distant audio conferencing system and presentation environment. This is a free service. http://www.vyew.com. You can create an account on this page. You do not need to have hosting privileges to attend a meeting. VYEW provides FREE audio bridging services for up to 20 students.
