Welcome!

I have taught courses ranging from mergers & acquisitions to organizational behavior to audiences ranging from executives to undergraduates. However, currently, my focus is in teaching Industry & Competitor Analysis (630). the following are materials relevant for the MBA Industry & Competitor Analysis course.

Basic Resources for Class

  • 630 Syllabus for Industry & Competitor Analysis (BUS 630)
  • 630P Syllabus for evening section of Industry & Competitor Analysis (BUS 630P)
  • Readings on eReserve in the Library using the reserves direct system. There are detailed instructions in the syllabi above. However, briefly to gain access to eReserve readings:
    1. Direct your browser to reserves direct here,
    2. Enter your Eagle/Dooley user ID and password,
    3. Select <Add a class> at the top. Search for "Coff" under instructors and add BUS 630,
    4. Display readings for the strategic management course.
    5. Print/view the readings as needed.
  • Cases are available online from Study.net. This is an online packet provider that offers Harvard cases cheaply and efficiently (as far as I can tell). Again, the syllabus has detailed instructions but the following is a brief overview:
    1. Direct your browser to Study.net,
    2. Register as a student (button on left),
    3. Press the <new courses> button (left) to add a course,
    4. Select "Emory" from the list and press the <list courses> button,
    5. Find the Strategic management course and follow the instructions to enroll. On completion, you will have access to all of the course materials.
  • Other tools that may be useful. The course involves significant group work as well as a specific form of case writeup. The following tools may prove useful.
    1. Group Management Toolbox -- How to solve free rider problems, etc.
    2. Sample Executive Briefings -- The Gallo and Monsanto examples illustrate how to convey a rigorous analysis concisely.
    3. Competitor Intelligence resources at CBI -- check it out!
