JD/MBA Society
Mission Statement: Our primary function is to support current students enrolled in the joint degree program. The Society serves as a liaison to the administrations of both schools and provides resources to assist students in their academic and professional pursuits.
Current Students
Current students are required to complete 79 credit hours in the law school and 50 credit hours in the business school. Students will register for 5 semesters of law school and 3 semesters of business school. While law school tuition is fixed for 4 years, business school tuition is not. Other items of note:
- You may take the following courses in EITHER the law or business school, BUT NOT BOTH: Individual Tax, Corporate Tax, Corporate Finance, Negotiations
- You may NOT take Basic Concepts of Taxation or Advanced Topics in Tax in the business school
- You may take Real Estate Finance and Commercial Real Estate Transactions Workshop in the law school AND Real Estate Finance in the business school (courses aren't duplicative)
- If you start your academic career in the law school, you may be inclined to take Evidence during your second business school semester. You may not. You must spend your entire 2nd year in the business school.
- After your full year in the business school, your are not required to participate in Lead Week simulations or modules.
Prospective Students
Admission
Admission to Emory’s JD/MBA program requires independent acceptance to the law and business schools. As a result, prospective students must (1) complete both the law and business school applications, (2) take both the LSAT and the GMAT examinations, and (3) interview with an Admission’s office representative in the business school.
Law School Admissions
Law school applications are typically due in early March. However, in order to be considered for a scholarship, prospectives must submit an application by early February. Decision letters are usually sent between late January and early June. To download an application from the Emory website, go to
www.law.emory.edu/admissions/application.html
Business School Admissions
The business school admits students on a rolling admission basis with decisions being made 4-8 weeks after the Admissions Office receives a completed application. The business school’s application deadline is ordinarily in mid-March. Much like the law school, prospectives who want to be considered for scholarships must submit an application by early February. Business school admissions representatives conduct interviews in several cities around the U.S. and throughout the world. Application information can be accessed at the business school’s homepage at www.goizueta.emory.edu
Contacts

Application Timing
It is important to note that prospectives are not required to apply to both schools at the same time. While many candidates apply to both schools and are accepted into the joint degree program before beginning their graduate school studies at Emory, others apply to the program during their first or second year of law school or during their first year of business school. Applying to both programs at once is neither recommended nor discouraged by the admissions offices. However, prospectives who are committed to pursuing a JD/MBA would be well-advised to apply to both schools before beginning either program. The obvious reason is that you will be assured a spot in the program rather than depending on later acceptance.
