JD/MBA Society

Mission Statement: Our primary function is to support current students enrolled in the joint degree program. The Society serves as a liaison to the administrations of both schools and provides resources to assist students in their academic and professional pursuits.

Current Students

Current students are required to complete 79 credit hours in the law school and 50 credit hours in the business school. Students will register for 5 semesters of law school and 3 semesters of business school. While law school tuition is fixed for 4 years, business school tuition is not. Other items of note:

Prospective Students

Admission

Admission to Emory’s JD/MBA program requires independent acceptance to the law and business schools. As a result, prospective students must (1) complete both the law and business school applications, (2) take both the LSAT and the GMAT examinations, and (3) interview with an Admission’s office representative in the business school.

Law School Admissions

Law school applications are typically due in early March. However, in order to be considered for a scholarship, prospectives must submit an application by early February. Decision letters are usually sent between late January and early June. To download an application from the Emory website, go to www.law.emory.edu/admissions/application.html

Business School Admissions

The business school admits students on a rolling admission basis with decisions being made 4-8 weeks after the Admissions Office receives a completed application. The business school’s application deadline is ordinarily in mid-March. Much like the law school, prospectives who want to be considered for scholarships must submit an application by early February. Business school admissions representatives conduct interviews in several cities around the U.S. and throughout the world. Application information can be accessed at the business school’s homepage at www.goizueta.emory.edu

Contacts

Both business and law school admissions offices have designated point persons to answer inquiries from and assist JD/MBA applicants. Moreover, current and former officers of the Emory JD/MBA Society are always pleased to discuss the program with prospectives. Contact information is below.

Application Timing

It is important to note that prospectives are not required to apply to both schools at the same time. While many candidates apply to both schools and are accepted into the joint degree program before beginning their graduate school studies at Emory, others apply to the program during their first or second year of law school or during their first year of business school. Applying to both programs at once is neither recommended nor discouraged by the admissions offices. However, prospectives who are committed to pursuing a JD/MBA would be well-advised to apply to both schools before beginning either program. The obvious reason is that you will be assured a spot in the program rather than depending on later acceptance.
