Professor Coff
is an Associate Professor of Organization and Management. His research
explores the role of knowledge-based assets in creating and maintaining
a sustainable competitive advantage. For example, he studies management
dilemmas associated with human assets including: 1) how buyers cope
in mergers and acquisitions that involve human assets, 2) rent appropriation
in the context of a knowledge-based advantage, and 3) organizational
design under conditions of asymmetric information.
Coff received his Ph.D. in Management from UCLA in 1993. Prior
to joining the Goizueta Business School faculty in 1999, Russ was
a faculty member at the Olin School of Business, Washington University.
Professor Coff is very active in the Academy of Management
where he is currently the Chair of the Business Policy & Strategy
Division. In addition, he currently serves on the editorial boards of the Academy
of Management Journal, Organization
Science, Strategic
Management Journal, Strategic
Organization, and the Journal
of Strategic Management Education. Coff also served previously on
the board at the Academy of Management Review.
Coff has published in the Academy of Management Review,
Academy of Management Journal,
Journal of
Management, Organization
Science, and Strategic
Management Journal (among other places).
Professor Coff has taught courses in Strategic Management, Corporate
Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions, Industry and Competitor Analysis
and Organizational Behavior. His students range from undergraduates
to executives. In the ten years prior to his academic career, Coff was a consultant providing strategic planning
and litigation economics services.
